Raphael Marks hates his birthday. Not only his father abandoned him on that same day when he was a child, but he has to quit his analyst job in London to look for his missing parent in Dubai. Mary Rodriguez works hard to provide a better future for the 10 year old son she left in the Philippines. Leila El-Khoury has everything money can buy, except her independence. Little do the three of them seem to have in common, except they all have a role to play in Dubai, the "Desert of Gold".
